Pembury 5 vs 3 Tonbridge Origin
Pembury's second and final game of the group stages of the senior cup saw them entertain Tonbridge Origin at Woodside. The division one side needed to win and score two goals to go through, they delivered a winning performance smashing in 5 goals in the process.
The home side looked comfortable in possession switching the ball with good effect. It took a while for their new look midfield to click but after a shakey 15 minutes they soon took control and put constant pressure on Origins goal. The breakthrough soon came and a deep free kick travelled through a crowded penalty area to Lester who knocked the ball back across the face of goal for Hendley to tap home. There were further chances for Gent and Funnell but some good defending and poor finishing kept the score at just the one.
Origin had some good possession but Pemburys' defence coped well and their only real chance of the half came from the home team over playing and with just Larkin to beat the tricky winger shot inches wide.
The second half started well for the home side as they quickly increased their lead with two quick fire goals from Mearing. One was a brilliant individual effort with him chipping the ball over his marker and smashing the ball home on the volley from 25 yards. The second was a free kick from the edge of the area with the goal keeper routed to the spot.
Marouani replaced Mearing with 30 minutes to play and the home side were cruising but Origin came right back into it and scored two quick goals with the second being a wonder strike from 30 yards into the top corner but Pembury calmed things down with a goal almost immediately Hendley finishing a good move down the left. Origin pushed again and Pembury hit them on the break with Marouani slotting the ball through to Funnell who passed the ball into an empty net. The visitors got another consolation goal with a couple of minutes to play but it was all over for them by then.
