Pembury Sunday 3 v 1 Ramsfield
Last weeks performance against Gardeners reminded us that we can play good passing football and battle as a team when defending therefore still being a force to reckon with.
This week saw us get a much needed win against Ramsfield who before the game were also winless. We played the ball around well from the back and threatened to get behind their back line but when we did get into good positions we lacked support for the front two.
Our best chance came when Chris Mearing beat the offside trap and his chip over the onrushing goalkeeper cannoned off the cross bar. They were dangerous on the break but an organised back four kept shots at goal to efforts from distance.
At half time it was still goal less but we knew if we upped the tempo a notch in their half then there were goals to be had. Ramsfield started the second half strongly and pushed us back as we struggled to get a grip of the ball in the middle of the park.
We then changed formation and threw an extra player into midfield and it immediately brought us joy. A cross wipped in from Mearing saw new signing Shuan Bent challenging for the ball and it ending up in the net with the last touch coming off their defender.
This made us up the pace all over the pitch and 5 minutes later we were two up with a cross from Yacc cleverly finished by skipper Evans with a back heal to celebrate his birthday. We expected to go on and get more goals but credit to Ramsfield as they battled back into the game and a well taken goal from their left winger saw them claw a goal back with 20 minutes still to go.
They continued to push forwards and a cross from the left into the six yard box was latched onto and looked certain to end up in the back of the net but Dom pulled off a great save at full stretch to parry it away.
The game became end to end but their back line was tiring and the ball into the channel with our pace to collect it meant we scored our third with 5 minutes to go, Evans breaking down the left, crossing to Mearing who controlled, spun and shot firmly into the bottom left hand corner.
