Our best result of the season so far has come in the Senior Cup and in the worst weather conditions I’ve played in for a long time. The wind was borderline gale force at Woodside which made the torrential rain almost horizontal at times.

This was difficult for both sides but the pitch held up pretty well all things considered. We started pretty well with plenty of energy, getting stuck into the tackles and moving the ball about well when we had it.

A new back four was marshalled well by Gayley and our midfield was solid with me and ollie in the centre with Danny on the left and Woody on the right. Al and Yacc up top gave us plenty of options too. It wasn’t long until we took the lead which was a bit of a novelty so far this season! Danny finished well from 8 yards.

We then took our foot off the gas for a bit and this allowed them back into the game for a bit but after 20 minutes we made it 2-0. It’s a bit of a blur to remember how the scoring went but we played some good football and more importantly played the conditions well.

Wadhurst struggled a bit with the slippery surface and dived in too many times allowing us to skip past them. Over the 90 minutes we were the better team and it was good to see some younger, less experienced players step up to division 1 level. Well done to all the team - you guys can be proud of the way you played and for putting in the effort in what were very difficult conditions.

The final score was 9-2 with Al getting 2, Danny 2, Les 2, Woody 1, Ollie 1 and a tasty own goal that any forward would have been pleased with. Let’s push on and keep this momentum going for the forthcoming games and we’ll continue to get results.
