Pembury Reserves 2 v 4 Paddock Wood
This week we entertained Paddock Wood who are currently going quite well in the division, but we had a very strong side out so I was confident of getting a result.
We didn't do particularly well in terms of creating anything first half but we were very resilient at the back and kept them out for 44 minutes before a lapse in concentration allowed them to score just before halftime.
In are opinion it was very harsh to concede late on but we came off at half time and didn't let our heads drop and came out fighting second half.
This time we started the brighter and were causing them the problems at the back but as always our play in committing men forward to try and get a leveller ended up in us being 2-0 down with a break away goal.
We started again though and there was still a feeling that we could get something from the game but the next goal was vital, unfortunately we were unable to convert a couple of decent enough chances and one again Paddock Wood were able to play with the freedom of being in the lead and scored on the counter attack again to make it 3-0.
We still continued though and made it 3-1 when Matt Edwards headed in a corner and once again we felt we could get something from the game with about 15 minutes remaining on the clock.
We then fell victim to a bit of (In my opinion) bad refereeing, he played an advantage on a foul but when Paddock Woods shot tamely over the bar he called the play back, and they scored from the resulting move.
Although I am a fan of keeping the game in play I think that if you are given an advantage and you go on to have a shot then the advantage has been played, to then give them the free kick is like giving them 2 chances which seems a little off in my book.
It may come across a little bitter but at 3-1 we stood a chance but 4-1 affectively ended any chance of a come back and despite the fact we scored again to make it 4-2 , with a well converted goal by Mike Callan, Paddock Wood were able to see the last 10 minutes out quite comfortably.
A fair few positives to take from the game, we didn't give up, James Ramskill played through the pain of a back injury to have a great game in goal and we created a number of chances (Especially second half) against a decent enough side but we cant keep claiming bad luck is the reason for our position otherwise we will never take it upon ourselves to start winning games.
Next week we have a bottom of the league clash against Tonbridge Invicta 3rds, if ever there was a must win its now because if we lose we will become firmly rooted to the foot of the table but a win could change our fortunes dramatically.
