Roseland's 1 v 3 Pembury Reserves
This week we travelled to Tonbridge to play a much improved Roseland's side (Compared to last year) with a big 13 man squad bolstered by the addition of 3 first team players due to their game being called off.
With a strong side and the confidence of getting our first win on the board last time we played there was now a certain amount of expectation to pick up more points.
The game started brightly for us with having the better from the opening exchanges as we missed a couple of decent headed chances, and as the half wore on Roseland's started to get more and more in the game with the defence (Mainly Bowyer) having to throw himself in to a couple of important block, and they would have taken the lead had it not have been for a decent save by Ramskill.
We eventually got control of the game again and worked a few openings and finally took the lead on about half hour when Woody made an opening for himself and shot low into the corner from about 20 yards.
We managed to see the game out to half time but started poorly in the second and were quite sluggish for the first 10 minutes which in this time they scored from a soft corner.
This got us playing again though and before long we were back in front when Hymers found himself in an acre of space calmly set himself up and tucked the ball home from long range.
We didn't make the same mistake again and used the lead to really stretch their midfield and we went 3-1 up with about 25 minutes to go after Tommy Gent (Who had been delivering some exceptional crosses all day) crossed from Wyles to clinically nod home.
We felt we would easily see the game out at this point and Roseland's kind of gave up on getting something from the game so it was disappointing we didn't increase the lead but we lacked a bit of concentration in the last 20 minutes and it took Seb and Olly to come on to rejuvenate us a little and we finished quite strongly.
A good 3-1 win against a team that has despatched the lower teams in this league this season so we can take a lot of confidence from the game.
Looking at the scorers it would appear that the first team players were the difference on Saturday but that does an injustice to people like Tommy Gent and Rob Hendley who caused endless problems on the wings and the back 5 who as a unit had a much improved game from previous weeks.
Next week we play them again at Woodside and then the week after that we have Invicta, with 2 wins from the last 2 games we should have the confidence to be unbeaten in 4 come the new year.
