Pembury Reserves 1 v 4 Leigh
After a disappointing week of not being able to get hold of players and a number of people unable to make it I was still able to call in a few favours and managed to get a strong 11. Unfortunately due to a mix up Luke Smith was taken for the first team so Andy Wittaker was forced to play upfront.
We started very brightly and took the lead after about 5 minutes after some good play by me and Christian on the right hand side resulted in a free kick just outside the box, I delivered a peach of a ball in and there defence were unable to deal with it as one of them put it in their own net.
A great start but the lack of Mobility upfront soon became apparent as we were good in possession but struggled to get the ball back once we had lost it.
After about 15minutes their winger hit a decent effort from the edge of the area which went in but really came against the run of play.
A little while after that they scored again from a corner after some weak marking but to are credit we managed to see the game out to half time by defending well and counter attacking when possible.
At half time we talked about keeping the ball more and making sure that we pass the ball to Andy and Yacine's feet as a ball over the top was pointless. We got out early full of optimism but that lasted only a couple of minutes as they went 3-1 up after a fortunate cross hit Tim as he was trying to clear it and went in, an own goal that his performance did not warrant as he had arguably his best game for Pembury.
We struggled to get at them after this but they were causing us little trouble as well so there was a feeling that the next goal was vital, and we very nearly got it after Tom Bowyer ran onto a through ball and got passed the keeper but his shot was cleared fantastically off the line by one of Leigh's defenders.
As is our luck at the moment, almost immediately after nearly making it 3-2 we conceding another terrible goal as a pass back to Jimmy was chased down and his clearance rebounded off the strikers breasts and went in.
We battled hard after this but were unable to get any consolation from the game and it finished 4-1.
A disappointing result against a team we were thrashing only a few seasons ago, unfortunately we cant buy a win at the moment but with Paddock Wood this weekend and Tonbridge Invicta 3rds for the next 2 weeks after that then there is a massive opportunity to get some more points on the board.
