Pembury Reserves 1 v 2 Highbrooms Casuals Reserves

This Saturday we entertained top of the league Highbrooms Casuals Reserves in what was to prove to be one of our better performances so far this season despite still losing by 2 goals to 1.

After quite a frantic week of trying to get players we fielded the following side

The beginning of the first half was quite evenly matched, although they only had 10 men to start the match with.

When they were able to bring the 11th man on it really changed the game as Myself and Matt Edwards now had to mark a man each instead of one sweeping and they started to add chances to their pressure.

Despite this we were still causing problems of our own with Mike Callan playing his best football so far this season.

After about 30 minutes the deadlock was broken as their left winger was able to make a good forward run on to a through ball and he despatched it calmly. We managed to see the game off to half time and with the team talk Andy was able to identify where we were going wrong.

The second half was much better with us using the ball nicely and creating a few half chances, High Brooms however are a decent side and were always dangerous on the break.

With about 20 minutes left we managed to score from easily the best move of the day as the ball was brought out calmly from the back and laid off to Tommy Gent who with some good inter play with Rob Hendley resulted in Rob cutting in and hitting a perfectly waited ball to the far post where Mike Callan met the ball with his head and bulleted it past the keeper.

Unfortunately we didn't remain level for long as some sloppy clearances resulted a shot from the edge of the area that came past a crowd of bodies and hit the back of the net.

Andy Wittaker changed it 3-4-3 for the last few minutes as we went in search of the equaliser and we were nearly rewarded with the last kick of the day but Matt Edwards' header narrowly went past the post.

Lots of positives to take from the game but all in all another disappointing week with the result not going our way.

With Paddock Wood away as our next game its important that we are up for it and confident we can get a result
