Pembury Reserves 1 v 5 Hadlow Harrow
We started the week with a very strong squad and looking like having 14 for the first time this season but a couple of late pull outs and Yac being called upon to go with the first team we ended up with 12 come Saturday.
Despite losing a few players late in the week we still had a really strong squad and one very capable of getting a positive result and this showed in a very good first half performance.
We started the brighter out the 2 sides but Hadlow scored against the run of play when a soft free kick was given away and unfortunately as the ball came in James couldn't keep hold of the wet ball and they scored from a rebound. We didn't let our heads drop though and we kept pushing for the equaliser and on about 30 minutes we were rewarded after some good play from Matt Edwards released Liam who squared for Tom to score. This got our tails up as our good play had finally been rewarded but we were unable to capitalise on this before half time and we went in at 1-1.
We came out second half and started where we had finished off and were unlucky not to go 2-1 up when Matt Edwards ran through but hit the bar, and as is our luck at the moment Hadlow scored from their next attack. With our heads notably dropping and Hadlow getting stronger as the impetus changed it wasn't long before we fell 3-1 down.
We nearly got back in the game as some more good play down the left resulted in Matt getting a good shot away but the keeper made a very good reaction save which gave Hadlow even more confidence and they ran out comfortable 5-1 winners in the end due to some poor marking and losing the ball in dangerous areas.
I cant fault our first half performance and had we scored our chances in the second half at the critical times it could have been a very different game. I do feel that the major difference between the 2 sides was that we have yet to win all season and Hadlow have completely sorted out their problems of last season and are coming off the back of some very good wins. It does seem some what of a cliché to put it down to confidence but this week it applies more than any other.
In conclusion our performances are getting better but the results are not, we take on Leigh at home this week so its another great chance to get a good result.
