Pembury 0 v 0 Tenterden

Pembury were hosts to fellow early season strugglers this week Tenterden in what some where already calling a 6 pointer, with a promising second half the previous week the Pembury manager felt this was a game they could take advantage of and get the first 3 points of the season.

Hymers came back in goal and Tom Cooper starting his first game it looks like slowly but surely players are returning now and we should have a full strength squad soon enough.

The game itself wasn’t great and was a bit hit and miss at times with Pembury not moving the ball quickly enough. Pembury had close to 80% possession during the match but could only create a number of half chances and when better chances fell to Pembury the Tenterden keeper was more than a match for them.

Pembury kept up the dominance for large periods of the game but had small lapses but were rarely troubled, although the one occasion when Tenterden did break through Hymers pulled off a great save to keep the scores level. Lindo was commanding at centre back along with the others in a back four and some of our best chances fell to defenders from set pieces which we have improved upon, the players are really starting to attack the ball now.

In midfield we looked strong but did not quite move the ball quick enough at times but Sam Nagle had a better game and was able at times to push on and help the forwards.

Our biggest problem at the moment is attacking and although we are creating chances we are very nervous in front of goal and instead of doing the basics well we are trying to be too clever, as soon as one chance goes in the floodgates will open as the talent is there in abundance.

This game was very much a case of 2 points dropped than 1 point game, but the first point of the season and we have to build on this. Commitment so far this season has been very good, so lads please don’t let this drop we need players available regularly and already this week we have people dropping out and we are struggling for a team which isn’t good enough as we will just have the same seasons as the last two which no one has enjoyed. Your commitment is needed as well as mine!
