Bredhurst Juniors 5 v 1 Pembury
The day started badly and didnt get better, after losing a couple of players just before themeet for our game away in Gillingham, i then had to wait for the only reserve team player that would come with us an didnt make the game until kick off.
Although we held firm for 20 minutes the pressure finally told and we conceeded against a very good Bredhurst side whose forwards are the best we have come across. Two further silly goals given away meant we went in 3-0 down at half time.
A fairly mild discussion took place at half time due to me not being able to question the commitment of the players for turning up, just the fact that we know were better than what were showing at the moment and looking for them to show some fight which is the only way we will get out of this run of defeats.
The second half gave us glimpses of what we can produce and each and every one of them worke much harder after half time, we soon pulled a goal back through Mark Wyles after being set up by Les. Other chances came our way but nothing solid although we put Bredhurst under a lot more pressure. Unfortuanelty fitness is lacking at the moment and they scored 2 more in the last few minutes.
We lost to a very good Bredhurst side today but the score line doesnt tell the whole picture although it was deserving of the first half performance the second half was much improved but still some way off of what we expect.
We are now getting to the point when people are making excuses about why they cant play, but when you look at the difference between the two sides today the main one is attitude. They wanted to be there and they want to play week in week out and work for each other. We unfortunately dont have that enough, thats not to say we dont have players like that as we o just not enough at the moment. I know we have the quality and as soon as we can get our players having the right mentality it will show. Traing starts this Thursday 8.45pm to 10.00pm (see over the bar for more details) at Tonbridge School, this will improve fitness as well as morale.
A big thank you to Tom Bowyer who came along from the reserves and played the second half and actually gave a great performance, shame about the shoulder as we will miss him.
