Pembury 1 v 2 Platt

We my penultimate game in charge of Pembury and what I thought was to be my last home game on Tuesday night against Platt Utd and things looked promising, especially in attacking options. Although we were without Andy Mearing we brought in for his first game for us Sunday top scorer Danny Meghan.

We were struggling at the back slightly with no real centre halves available and I made probably a slight mistake in putting Galey and Les in when other options in hindsight were more suitable! But none the less the back four was incredibly strong, with 4 quality players lined up.

The game started and within moments we were 1-0 down due to a mix up, although I didn’t see it as I was still in the changing rooms with a couple of late arrivals the defence were adamant there forward was offside yet the flag didn’t go up! He rounded Rich in goal and scored an easy tap in, this didn’t seem to lift us at all and we were very lax in defending all over the pitch and when we got the ball we should have done so much better with the options we had out there. We gave the ball away with difficult passes and not finding feet which was completely different to last Saturday when we did the easy things well and this was what we needed to build on.

1 became 2 when some more slackness while defending after giving the ball away led to the Platt centre forward to get his second. Finally we started to wake up a bit and our passing although still a bit sloppy, improved and we started moving the ball better. We started playing into Al’s feet and Danny was getting hold of the ball a lot more. Martin was working tirelessly after a break on Saturday and was unlucky when he closed the goalkeeper down not for I to end up in the back of the net.

The second half started much better and we were starting to make inroads, getting the ball wide early and then managing to switch it to stretch play and Platt. But like most of our season we couldn’t find an end product, for the amount of possession we have and football we play we should score a hell of a lot more goals but lacking in confidence we rush our shots or are to scared to even shoot. Danny had a couple of half chances with their keeper pulling off a couple of decent saves.

We made a couple of change, Wyles on for Les and Genty on for Martin. This freshened things up a bit and Wyles had a great chance when put through but dragged his half volley just wide when really should have done better. We then got the goal when a ball was played back in after being half cleared by the Platt defence Danny managed to head over their goalkeeper, although their linesman had his flag up the referee correctly gave the goal as the person the linesman flagged for wasn’t interfering.

We were much more positive second half but couldn’t get the goal we needed, both Galey and Ollie who had dropped back into central defence looked solid and didn’t look like conceding just a shame we couldn’t get the equaliser.

Well one game to go now, at home this week to AFC Sevenoaks 12 o’clock kick off.
