NOTICE OF A FORMAL MEETING TO DISCUSS LEAGUE ENTRIES FOR NEXT SEASON s

As many of you may be aware an informal get together, mainly consisting of the first team squad and committee members, was held a few weeks ago to discuss where the club saw its short term future with regard to first team football.

It is well known that the first team have had a difficult time over the last couple of seasons competing in the Kent County League. A lot of this, it is argued, is down to the amount of travelling that we have to do and how this affects the commitment of players and in turn leads to inconsistency in selection with regard to both the quality of personnel and the numbers actually available. It has been argued that this would improve if we played locally and reverted back to having both our sides in the Tonbridge & District League.

Counter arguments were received that we should seek to play at the highest possible level and that the lack of commitment was not down to travelling but the general disinterest that there appears to be in playing senior football these days, something that so many other clubs are also facing.

The purpose of the meeting was to obtain a feeling from the players as to what they would like the club to do going forward. Unfortunately, despite many opinions being given there was no decisive recommendation coming forward from the floor. What was pleasing though was that there appeared to be a consensus in that the majority were committed to playing for the club whatever the outcome.

As a consequence the committee took the view at their recent meeting that they ought to provide some direction to the membership. They accordingly discussed the issue, aired the views that had been raised by the players and agreed that they should put forward a recommendation to the club. This recommendation would then be put forward to the club for passing or rejecting at a special meeting organised for this purpose.

This note is therefore deemed notice to hold said meeting at The Black Horse on Saturday 27th March at 5.30 (or as near to this time as possible after the players return from their games on that date). Please do your best to attend as the outcome shapes our future direction. If you are unable to attend the meeting but wish to register a vote then please inform a member of committee prior to the meeting. For the vote to be eligible you must make the vote to the committee member yourself i.e. not via another club member.

The committee is to put forward the following recommendation:

THAT THE CLUB RESIGNS ITS POSITION IN THE KENT COUNTY LEAGUE EFFECTIVE FOR SEASON 2010/2011 AND APPLYS FOR ENTRY OF TWO SIDES IN THE TONBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE FOR SEASON 2010/2011.

The committee reached this decision with a view to the club re-establishing itself as a strong and respected force in local football. It was considered that to do this we may need to take a step back and consolidate before we could make significant strides forward.
