With no first team game dormandsland fielded a much stronger team than they did when we beat them previously in the season, however with the players we had on the pitch we could not use this as an excuse for the completely inept first half display.
We had no shape, we gave them to much time and space and there was a basic lack of commitment and effort throughout the team. We were lucky to turn round at half time only a goal down.
The second half started brightly and we looked much more up for the game and had a much better shape and pattern to our play. It was a defensive misunderstanding that lead to the lucky second goal, this knocked our confidence and within a couple of minutes a good strike made to 3 - 0.
The game then started to drift and they made a couple of subs and it looked like the game was over although we had played much better and created some good chances. With 15 mins left a good sustained period of pressure paid off with Scotty getting his first goal since 1976,that lifted our spirits and all of a sudden we were in control of the game.
With 5 remaining we were still pushing on and a long range dribbler from Jason crept in the corner. Game on. With 2 mins left good work from Scott found Tom Gent at the back past to side foot home 3 - 3.
Could the unbelievable come back continue with only 1 min left on the clock, well very nearly. With the last kick of the game we had a free kick in a good position Dave (who played in goal cos we had no one else and because he couldn’t run) legged it from one end to the other to rise like a salmon and place a free header straight at the player on the post.
A good come back boys, BUT we should not of been in that position to start with.
