Pembury Sunday Res 3 - Whitehill Tavern 2

Effort, commitment, enthusiasm and desire are all attributes that we hope to display on the football pitch, but when coupled with determination and skill and of course a bit of luck you have found a winning formula. On Sunday every player that stepped onto the pitch displayed these qualities and a fantastic game of football was fought out.

After all the talk before the game about confidence and a will to win we started slowly and were lucky not to have gone down to 10. However after 15 minutes a crazy decision by the ref and Scott was sent off for foul and abusive. Down to 10 we got back into the game, we defended well and looked dangerous going forward.

The pressure finally told and Lee scored a good goal only for it to be disallowed, Tim Marshall started to become more influential in proceedings running the defenders ragged and was soon rewarded with two good goals.

Just before half time a defensive slip let them in and at the break we were 2 - 1 up. Both teams defended well in the second half, but from a corner they scored again to make it 2 - 2. We again went on the attack and had another good goal disallowed, Dave hit a direct free kick, the keeper fumbled it and threw it into his own net only for the ref again, to disallow the goal for an infringement to a player who was no way interfering with play.

As the game drew on and after some last gasp defending, a long ball was flicked on by Tim for Barry to coolly slot home. A great result and one of the most enjoyable games of football I have played in for a long time. Keep it up lads, more games like that and it will be a good season.
