We now head for ‘Super Sunday’ in full knowledge of what needs to be done to retain the title - avoid defeat. As we’ve managed to do that in the league all season there is no reason to believe that we won’t do so again. This situation arises out of victories for both us and Simla at the weekend.
Our win was pretty comprehensive and never in doubt once we opened the scoring in the fourth minute, Alun Evans finishing well from a Dave Burren cross. Dave scored the second himself seven minutes later driving the ball home at the near post following a good turn in the box. The third, and Alun’s second, arrived on twenty five minutes when he slotted the ball home following a Peter Bukovec through ball. Five minutes later it was four when a Harps corner went straight in after the keeper made a hash of attempting to keep it out. The awarding of the goal to Harps did pass before the dubious goal panel who decided that he should receive the credit particularly as two further goals for him late in the game meant that a jug was in order. It was five nil seven minutes before half time when Alun laid the ball in to the path of Peter who stroked the ball home.
To Insulators credit they battled hard in the second half and it wasn’t until the final fifteen minutes that we scored again Harps getting his second with a strong drive after Millsy had beaten his man and laid the ball in. The hat trick was complete with three minutes remaining when Dave fed Harps and he round the last defender before calmly finishing.
All in all a job well done and all we have to do now is finish things off in two weeks time. We know that we will face a good Simla side who have also done their part in bringing the season to an exciting climax, however we should be confident in our abilities and if we perform close to them we can be confident of the right result.
