Not much too say about Sunday - we were far to strong for a Rusthall side who tried hard but were never in the game. What was also pleasing was the fact that, despite the dominance, we played the game properly throughout and didn’t get dragged in to taking things easy or fall in to the trap of having eleven individuals just playing for themselves.
We were four nil up at half time with two goals from Dave Burren adding to those of Alun Evans and Liam Gent, who supposedly had a painful foot. I did have an element of sympathy until I heard he was seen in theatre land again on a Saturday night before a game - too much treading the boards has probably caused a stress facture but at least he had one ‘Wicked’ performance over the weekend.
In the second half Burren completed his hat trick whilst Evans notched another and Manse finally got a header on target. Young recruit Leigh Ferris (56) made his first team debut at centre half replacing Lindo in the second half and with the game safe it was decided to risk Steve Harper and give him a final chance to impress. He did in fairness shape up a little better this week but a hat trick from three tap ins did flatter to deceive a little. We will, however, continue to persevere and give him further opportunities in the hope that one day he’ll come through and be worth a start.
