This Saturday we played a team called AC Vala, despite the fact that they were the league below us we were still expecting a difficult game as they had scored a shed load of goals and were sitting pretty at the top of their league so they were going to be going into the match with a lot of confidence, something unfortunately we are lacking at the moment.
We started the first half quite well and it was end to end stuff without any real chances being created but after about 10 minutes I found the ball played through to myself and from the edge of the area I managed to bring down a NASA Satellite with a terrible ballooning effort, shortly after that some good movement from Nick Forward meant that he found himself played down the wing and he put a good cross into the box but unfortunately Wyles was a bit too far out to cause any major trouble with the header.
On about 30 minutes they scored a pretty normal goal which seemed to deflate us a bit, but we were still getting the ball up front quite allot and Matty Rice Tucker and Luke Hattle were linking up well down the right.
In between there goal and half time there was just enough time for me to slice another effort wide from a similar position to the first and with my control getting worse as the half wore and myself and the team were getting more and more frustrated.
At Half time Andy stressed that we should be shooting when given the opportunity but not to have pointless crappy cracks at goal (wonder who he was referring to) and that with the strikers staying closer together we could cause them problems, but at the beginning of the second half I was still playing like a Muppet and Andy saved my blushes by subbing me off for Jamie Bush.
It was purely coincidental that pembury started to play well when I came off, and I had only been off for about a minute before Ross scored from a fine left footed effort from the edge of the area after some good work from Tommy gent, this sparked us into life and for the next five minutes we looked confident we could go on to win it, then luckily for them one of there players (I reckon deliberately to ease the pressure on the team) dislocated his Knee cap, and we were delayed for about half an hour waiting for the ambulance.
When we restarted we looked off the pace again and found ourselves 2-1 after a quite good move by them, but once again going a goal down managed to spark us into life and after a few attacks (one of which resulted in a penalty claim which was denied) we managed to score after a bit of a scramble which resulted in Wyles doing an overhead kick (apparently, to me it looked like a fat man losing his balance) and the ball fell to Tommy Gent who tucked it away like a pro.
Once it was 2-2 we really pushed for the winner which meant we left ourselves short staffed at the back (with the new formation 3 - 5 - 2) and it nearly paid off after a great ball in from Gary Knight fell to Mark Wyles AKA "The best headerer of the ball I know" who missed, in fairness though it wasn't the easiest of headers and it did only go millimetres wide. shortly after that attack we went on another one and committed men forward, once the attack broke down we were left against with 2 against 3 and after a offside mix up their striker ran through and finished well which was a gutting blow for the us, and although we did come close to equalising again it just wasn't meant to be.
The general feelings from all are games is that we deserve more from our performances which is certainly better than if we came in after playing terrible, but as we are losing against teams that we are capable of beating comfortably we are obviously losing confidence, but like the first team I feel that once we get a few good results on the bounce then our season will kick off.
Next week is a new game and a new cup competition so we can go into it that with a clean slate.
