Southborough Reserves 3 v Pembury Res 0

The Weather was so nice and sunny on Saturday it would have been perfect to play cricket, fortunately for several of our key players they were and it meant we turned up at Southborough with a bare eleven.

We made a reletively bright start to the game and were getting a fair ammount of Joy down both flank which produced the main talking point of the first half, aftersome good movement down the right Tommy Gent produced a cross that was so terrible everyone looked away in disgust, however to our amazement in ended up in the net.

However their linesman/Pillock (the only person who does truly know what happened) put his flag up and said that the ball had gone off before bouncing in the net. I was never a great one for turning up to science class but I think for the ball to bounce off, then bounce on and then bounce into the goal defies the laws of physics, an opinion shared by Kevin Waterman who was booked for aguing our corner.

After this incident Southborough seemed to take the initiative and started to cause us problems which resulted in a few decent chances and after one good move Kevin was booked again for deliberately bringing a man down whilst running through.

Although we appreciated his efforts fo trying to stop a goal it would have been better to have had him for the remainding 60 minutes. After that we seemed quite deflated and not surprisingly we went down to a well taken goal by there striker.

After Halftime we felt we could still grab something from the game but we need to create a chance, unfortunately we struggled to hold the ball upfront and therefore were always under the cosh. We managed to hold on with some good last ditch challenges until about 20 mintues to go, this is where the extra man really showed as we became absolutely Cream Crackered and they started to pull us apart. After missing chances that even I would have struggled to miss they eventually made it 2-0 and shortly after that we conceded a penalty which made it 3-0.

In fairness to their striker he had some bottle to take it after we were rinsing him about his and his teams earlier misses.

Despite a disapointing result the peformance was not too bad, with a great individual peformance from Nat who was brilliant from start to finish and as a team we defended admirably so we will be possitive going into the next game with a full strength side looking to notch up our first win of the season.
