Pembury Reserves 2 v Hawkenbury Reserves 5

On Saturday we had to turn up to arguably the best team in the league with a bare eleven, 2 of which had not played for us this season, so obviously we were confident of winning.

Andy's teamtalk before the game was about holding the ball up front and keeping track of the opposition forwards as to prevent them from creating chances and at half time it was 1-0 and to be a fair to us a job pretty well done.

Some more good defending by us for the fist 25 minutes of the second half meant that we were still in this game and only needed one chance to egt something from this game, then Matty (Never played with him before) came up with a cross/shot that looped over the goaly and made it 1-1.

This however will probably be the only time that we regret equalising in a game as they came out and really tested our resolution and within about 3 minutes from the restart the ball was hammered from close range and it smacked me on the arm on the goal line, penalty!. They made light work of the spot kick and then changed decent players with fresh legs (who were also decent players) and after they got a third they got their tales up and started to play like the best team in the league should. We were running on empty for the last 20 minutes but still we battled on and every Pembury player must be applauded for their workrate.

Unfortuanately you don't win games on workrate alone and as we tired we gave the ball away cheaply and failed to make the most of our clearances and eventually got beat 6-1.

We lost 3-1 to this team at the beginning of the season with a good side and in that game we lacked a bit of fight, in this game we had fight but lacked quality so it goes to show if we can find away of combining the 2 we would do well in this league, but before we even consider it we need to have players in our side cosistently and need to have palyers not letting us down at the last minute, unless this happens we will always struggle against sides like Rusthall.

I would like to congratulate the players effort in this game as it was second none but we still lost 6-1 so it's a small consolation and next week we need to get back to winning ways.
