Due to Browny off being a bridesmaid at Turners wedding the sole management of the team came down to myself this week, with the previous weeks victory against Saga still fresh in our minds i wanted to try and keep the same team as much as possible to reward the players efforts and hard work the previous week.
With this in mind there was only one change that needed to be made with Liam Gent coming back into the squad for the absent Steve Lyndsey, as he was also at Turners wedding trying to catch the bouquet in the hope that Browny would follow on and propose to him.
With this the starting eleven was
D.Hymers,
L.Gunning
L.Smith
A.Lindsey
Tom Bowyer,
B.Leete,
M.Wood, (C)
A.Donaldson
A.Evans,
B.Brooker
L.Gent
Sub:
G.Hughes
The idea and strategy i put across in the pre match talk was to go straight at them and to hassle there touch as i noticed during the warm up that they didnt look the quickest as most of them looked a bit overweight and lacked mobility.
The team obviously took this on board and quickly took control in the game with Leete and Wood winning the early midfield battle, this lead to a break down the left for which Woody pulled back to myself on the edge of the box which i unfortunately shanked wide of the goal. The opening goal came shortly after and was fully deserved, when Genty not for the last time in the game got the better of his man and squared for Brooker to calmly slot home into the roof of the net.
The second was not long in coming as Leete played an excellent through ball for which Gent raced onto and reached it to take it round the keeper in the box just before there bright ginger no.1 absolutely pole-axed Genty and sent him crashing to the floor for which the referee immediately blew and pointed to the spot, nobody else seemed to want the kick so i carried on for the sake of the team and placed it cooly to the keepers right after he went to his left.
Half time came and 2-0 up, it was important to stress to the players that this team we were playing were no mugs and that the game was by no means over, as they had a couple of useful players who could of quite easily changed the game in a instant. The ref to be fair to him was getting constant grief from the opposition and was quite happy to book players, so i made it clear, including myself, to stay out of it and let him control it.
We had to make an early substitution in the second half due to Bowyer not being able to carry on after a CRASH BANG WALLOP challenge with there forward just before the interval, so Strawbs being the only sub available came on as straight swap to play along side Lyndo at centre-back.
We quickly increased our lead soon after with Leete making a surging run down the wing followed by a superb cross which i managed to get infront of there defenders to side foot past the keeper to make it 3-0.
The rest of the half was comfortable with Hymers not having much to do but when called on coped easily, the fourth goal was no suprise as there defence attempted to play a high line which didnt work when Brooker ran through one on one and calmly rounded the keeper before slotting home his second to make it 4-0.At this stage a few of us started to drop off from doing our jobs and this is where we conceded when the ball was left to bounce and they capitalised and broke and calmly slotted past Hymers.
FINAL SCORE 4-1
Overall an excellent team performance which now means were 2 games unbeaten scoring 8 and conceding only 1. Special mention must go out to Liam Gent today who’s tireless running and work rate especially in the first half was a great asset to the team, but at the end of the day the whole team performed just as requested WELL DONE LADS.
This Saturday coming Tun.Wells Cup and we are away to Hawkenbury, this is a great chance for us in this cup so lets take todays performance onto next week.
