FC Sporto 0 Vs Pembury Res 5

After a week off Pembury started the game looking very shaky & uneasy for the first 5 minutes as the home side pushed on. However, the early nerves quickly settled and Pembury started to dictate play.

After only 15 minutes Brooker opened the scoring with a great strike after some good work from Ells & link play between the Evans brothers. Two more goals followed, with Evans (Jnr) rising well to head home from a Brooker cross and Evans (Snr) throwing the goalie a great dummy to finish with ease.

Pembury were three goals up & were in total control, however there was no urgency from players to improve their goal tally. The away side played the last 20 minutes of the first half with individuals trying to seek glory for themselves, instead of continuing with the simple passing game that gave them the goals in the first place. After a stern team talk by the management the players knew much more was expected from them, especially with a strong bench eager to impress the gaffer.

The second half started with a buzz, but the game quickly dropped to the pace of the first half at regular intervals. Pembury did have strong periods of possession, peppering the opposition's goal, but failed to find the form they hit against Dormansland. The FC Sporto's goalie was playing well until Leete broke through the defence, only to be brought down in the box by their No.1. Officially he should have seen the red card, but the referee took the sensible approach and only awarded a penalty which Evans (Snr) converted. To put the game beyond any doubt, Brooker continued his scoring streak notching his second of the game and fifth for the weekend.

Lanaway was a mere spectator for most of the game, as the back line played well & never looked in trouble. Three points, a clean sheet & a comfortable performance, but will Pembury regret the missed opportunities when goal difference may count towards the end of the season?

Carlton Palmer Clanger: Lanaway - for thinking the goal post was going to move out of the way of his head

Magic Moment: Evans (Jnr) - roll in the hay with the opposing linesman

Reporter's Roy of the Rovers: Ells - always a threat going forward and regularly tracked back to assist his team mates
