After the victories in our last 2 games it was important to try and continue this week, as we have a 3 week break from the league coming up.
It was not going to be an easy task as UK Paper were the visitors, and they brought with them a 100% record, as league leaders.
This was however our best performance of the season so far, and we ran out worthy winners 5-3, which flattered them a touch.
A promising start by ourselves resulted in us taking the lead after 14mins when Chris Ells finished from close range after the ref over-ruled their linesman. With about 30mins gone we produced the move of the match as Sargy played a great knock down the line, Ellsy crossed and Dan Hesmer was arriving at pace, right on queue to fire home. 2-0 at half time.
At half time we spoke about, withstanding their inevitable charge, but within 2 mins we had gone 3-0 up when Aus challenged the keeper and squeezed the ball home. If anything we may have scored to early, if there is such a thing, as we sat back a bit, and took our foot off the gas. This resulted in them pulling one back, as a crossfield ball, caught Sargy napping and the winger drilled home. 3-1 soon became 4-1 as Aus broke, we had a 2 on 1 situation with there keeper, he squared it to Ellsy, who returned the favour and Aus drilled it home. 5-1 shortly followed as Dan again arrived late to power home a peach of a cross from Woody.
Game over or so we thought. A floated cross was misjudged by Dan our Keeper, and they scored at close range. 5-2 was to become 5-3 as Dan picked up a back pass. They converted the resulting free kick. In the commotion surrounding the kick though, Lindo was kneed in the nuts off the ball, which I did not agree with. I made my point to the ref, who was getting it from all angles. He then turned towards the changing rooms and said game abandoned, I thought S**t what have we done, but fortunately he changed his mind, and promptly blew up minutes later.
An eventful day, but a great result for Pembury. All the players played there part, and got there just rewards. WELL DONE !.
Next week we hope to progress in the Tun Wells Cup to keep our winning run going.
