Today we visited the Champions in waiting. Guru are unbeaten and a very good side, who will probably pass straight through the next division as well. Having said that we still went there to have a good go at them.
Tom Bowyer, Rob Cornish and Ross Taylor, stepped up from the reserves, as we were missing some players.
We discussed before the game about, taking the game by stages and not being out of the game in the first 20 mins. I did not want us to be to adventurous at first, let them have the ball at the back, and make it a difficult as possible for them to break through. It was all going well until the referee blew his whistle to start the game, and they scored within the first minute. 1-0 soon became 2-0, and I was fearing the worst. But credit to the team we started to play some of the best football we have played this season, Hymers had volley go just wide and a headed goal disallowed for a foul which only the ref seemed to see. Ellsy and woody were causing them problems and we had settled at the back after the shaky start. However they still managed a third before half time.
The second half we again held our own, but we still conceded twice more. All their goals were avoidable, we have to learn from this.
Our keeper was not really that busy, they were just very clinical, they probably had 7 decent opportunities and took 5 of them. They also obviously train hard and were fitter for it as a team.
Despite the scoreline, I have taken positives away from the performance, and if we can replicate some of the football we played today, we will win more games than we lose between now and the end of the season.
