After a weeks break, we returned to action at Lanes End, in the League cup.
It was to prove to be a disappointing day, from the off. Firstly we were told the wrong kick-off time so we literally had to get changed and start, 3 players received yellow cards, and Michael Brown picked up a thigh strain, which may keep him out for a while.
The game itself was very stop start, with countless niggly free kicks, from both sides breaking up play.
We started with a 4-3-3 formation, and the first chance fell to us, when Chris Ells unleashed a screamer goal bound, only for their keeper to pull off a very good save. They then hit the post, before they broke the deadlock. A ball in behind Benny found there winger, who cut in and finished well. 15 mins of even play followed, then we thought we had scored, Ellsy, played in Dan Hesmer, who slotted home, only for their linesman to call the ref over, to say we had been offside earlier in the move. The ref agreed and disallowed the goal. If this had counted it may have been a different game.
The 2nd half followed a similar pattern to the first, a fairly even contest, but they took their chances. We huffed and puffed, but nothing really went for us.
A disappointing result, but a day which proved, we do have a small squad, and when you have players away, we are weakened. If we are to progress in any of the remaining competitions, we need total commitment from everyone.
