Pembury 4-2 Tenterden Town

Another league victory, but again we made harder work of it, than was necessary.

We definitely have a problem with the way we have been starting matches of late. Today the oppo set up in a different formation than the norm, and it took us 25 mins to come to terms with this, and by this time we had we were 1-0 down. This is how the half finished, even though we were coming in to the game more, and had created some good opportunities, which were squandered.

We changed to a 3-5-2 formation at half time, and introduced James Philpott. We continued to create chances but were not taking them. With 30 mins left we put Tom Bowyer on at centre half, which released Dan Hesmer into the midfield. This had an instant effect as he headed us level, after good work down the right side. We were on top now, and in control.

We took the lead after a excellent solo effort from Alun Evans. He picked the ball up about 40yards out on the left, drove in and across the box and smashed home. 2-1 up and relatively comfortable. The game should have been sealed from the spot, but Dan Hesmer penalty went wide and very high.

Time for our Achilles heel to come into action, a defensive error. Confusion between Dan McGuire and Ada James, resulted in them lobbing the ball into an empty net. 2-2 with about 8 mins left.

James Philpott then decided to take matters into his own hands, as he roasted their full back and rifled the ball in from a tight angle. He secured a brace shortly after when he nodded in from close range at the back post. 4-2 and game over.

Once again a performance which was good in parts but poor in others. But nevertheless a deserved 3 points against an improving Tenterden team.
