With a break from the league this week, we tried to progress in the Kent Junior Cup. This was not to be as we went down to a solitary first half goal.
Once again we had four players missing from the squad which had won the week before, due to other commitments, which is becoming increasingly frustrating as your hands are totally tied, when it comes to selecting a side.
We started the game with Dave Hymers in goal, which was a gamble as he was carrying a bad knee injury.
Speaking to a few of their players beforehand they were struggling to field a side as well, so it was an opportunity for us to progress.
We started the game positively, and for the first 20 mins controlled the game, creating a few half chances in the process. But again a lapse in concentration, and players not doing what was asked of them, their 40 year old playmaker, pinged a ball over the top for their forward to make it 1-0. 10 mins further on we lost the services of Browny, due to recurring knee injury. At half time Dave Hymers could not continue so I went in goal.
The second half we asked for more desire from the players, which we definitely got, the only thing missing was, quality. Having said that they did not have one shot on target in the second half.
We have got to learn quickly that we have got to earn the right to win these matches. We cannot keep conceding, and then trying to up our game.
I cannot fault the players who were there, for the simple fact that they were there, but we do need to get a consistent 14 players each week, so people have some competition for places.
