At long last, having not kept a clean sheet since the start of the season and only scoring in 1 of the last 7 games we erased both of these statistics, with an emphatic win over Platt.
We stressed the importance of this must win game, as Platt are bottom of the league, and a victory would put 7 points between us and them.
The players took this on board, and went at the oppo from the off. On a poor pitch, we still managed to shift the ball quickly, and after about 15 mins we created a good opportunity, which Steve Waterman volleyed home, only for it to be ruled offside. ( 2nd week running for Steve). Credit to the team, they continued to be patient, and from a Platt corner, we broke quickly, a good crossfieldÊ ball found Chris Ells, who finished coolly. 10 mins later we got our second via Liam Gent. This is how it ended at half time.
We stressed the next goal was the all important one, and if we continued to do basics well it would come.
It did arrive via a Platt player, who deflected a cross in. 3-0 and their heads dropped. Alun Evans was introduced for Steve and Steve Adams for Chris.
We played out the game very well, creating umpteen opportunities, which resulted in another 3 goals, from, Alun, Oz and Andy Mearing.
This was a good solid all round performance from the team, with some good individual performances. As a unit the back four looked solid, the midfield pressed and distributed well, and the front men created good chances.
Onward to next week away to Sutton, and another 3 points would go down a treat.
Well done lads.
